Scorpion Vision Ltd wins major 3D Machine Vision Tender

Lymington, UK –  May 25th 2012

The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) in Coventry has acquired a number of Scorpion 3D Stinger development systems manufactured by Tordivel AS.

Scorpion Vision Ltd was invited to bid for the tender through a Scorpion 3D Stinger integrator, John Larsson of Oxford based Scandinavian Machine Vision Ltd – a company that specialises in high end machine vision based on the Scorpion 3D Stinger technology.

The Manufacturing Technology Centre, MTC, is a multi-million pound organisation, set-up in 2011 to provide world class manufacturing solutions through it’s research centre at it’s base in Ansty Park near Coventry, UK. Ken Young, Technology Director at the MTC says: “Scorpion 3D Stinger was selected because of the power and flexibility with it’s unique scripting and 3D modelling capabilities. It is an ideal development environment for the complex robot guidance problems we are attempting to solve”.

Paul Wilson of Scorpion Vision Ltd said, “This represents a significant milestone for Scorpion 3D Stinger in the UK marketplace. The MTC has selected it over competing technologies because of its performance and features in a large number of areas. This includes the ability to create 3D data from 2D images, using a variety of image acquisition techniques and the additional Python scripting capabilities – including seamless integration of Intel’s OpenCV machine vision library. The MTC has some really exciting plans for developing ground breaking 3D robot guidance using Scorpion Vision Software.”
